Customer-Focused Supply Chain Management Seminar
Supply Chain Management = Success
Companies with higher-performing supply chains are more successful than other companies. A recent survey by Michigan State University found that “in both the stable economy of 2005 to 2007 and the economic recession [defined as the first quarter of 2008 to the third quarter of 2009], supply chain leaders outperformed their closest competitors in operating expenses, financial, and stock returns.”
According to the survey, top supply chain performers have 20 percent lower operating costs and expenses, 12 percent lower inventories, and 44 percent higher economic value added. Bottom line, according to Today’s Trucking, “companies with high-performing supply chains earned twice the returns on stock prices.”
By the very nature of their work, supply chain professionals collaborate with many parts of the business. That is why we are excited about our new Customer-Focused Supply Chain Management seminar. The program is not for supply chain management professionals*; rather, it is designed for the colleagues who support supply chain management functions. Participants include professionals in human resources, engineering, accounting, sales and marketing, information technology, and customer service. This seven-hour course is designed to increase participants’ confidence with basic supply chain management concepts, enabling them to more fully participate in the cross-functional and organization-wide processes of supply chain management. This benefits both the supply chain professional and the corporation by strengthening the extended team that supports the supply chain.
Think about your company’s bottom-line success and consider how support from other departments might help your overall supply chain efforts. Then consider recommending this new APICS seminar to your employer. The seminar can be offered as a one-day presentation at your facility, two half-day sessions, or 3 evening sessions. Contact Dave Turbide dave@daveturbide.com for more information.
* For supply chain professionals, consider the APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional education program and certification.

APICS Notification cont’d
APICS certifications are recognized globally as the standard of professional excellence in supply chain and operations management. To ensure the validity of those certifications, APICS will limit the length of time certification exams are valid. Beginning January 1, 2013, exams will have a life span of 10 years from the date the exam is taken.
This policy ensures that candidates who earn APICS certifications have current and relevant knowledge in their field.
With this change in policy, candidates pursuing the APICS CPIM designation will have 10 years from the date of their first successful exam to complete all five modules. If candidates do not earn the certification in this time frame, they will have to retake and pass any exam that has an expired score.
Important notes · Certification candidates have 19 months to complete the remaining exams before this policy takes effect. · Beginning January 1, 2013, exam results will be valid toward certification for 10 years. This policy was determined by the APICS Certification Committee with the approval of the APICS Board of Directors, and no special requests or grandfathering will be accepted in relation to this rule. Additionally, APICS CPIM designees interested in pursuing the APICS CFPIM designation must apply for the designation before any of their APICS CPIM exam scores have expired. This does not affect their APICS CPIM designation status, but does affect the ability to pursue the APICS CFPIM designation.
